NEW HIV TEST PLAN QUESTIONED

GOVERNMENT’S new plan to replace voluntary counselling and testing with the HIV testing and counselling (HTC) programme could backfire and cause panic if people are not sufficiently educated about it.

The Democratic Alliance’s provincial health spokesperson Pine Pienaar agreed that the HTC had good intentions, but said the policies around it were unclear. “To avoid confusion there should be boards at all centres explaining that they could opt out,” he said.
