PIENAAR ON INDIA STUDY TOUR FOR NEW PLANNING COMMISSION

Pine Pienaar, portfolio committee member for the Office of the Premier.

MPL Pine Pienaar is currently on a study tour of India in preparation of the proposed Planning Commissions for each province, as set out by President Jacob Zuma. The group, consisting of members of the portfolio committee for the Office of the Premier, arrived in Kerala on May 9.

The delegation will be meeting with the head of the National Planning Commission, former Finance Minister Trevor Manual, when they return.

“I am very excited about the establishment of such a commission for the Eastern Cape in view of better service delivery and co-ordination of programmes.

“It is hoped that it will prevent issues such as under-spending in departments, such as the Department of Housing, which has under-spent by some R1,3 billion over the last few years”.

“This commission will be able to intervene at the early stages to prevent poor service delivery,” Pienaar said.
