A sudden surge in violent robberies of pupils at Mandela Bay schools in the last few weeks has driven principals and police to implement strict safety regulations at schools around the city.
Edmund van Vuuren, former Bay principal and provincial education committee member, also warned pupils to be more vigilant. “I do believe children should be allowed to take cellphones to school to communicate with their parents, but they should not take these valuable items out where attackers can see them.
