OUTCRY OVER R30M COST TO SORT OUT EC COUNCILS

THE Local Government Department has come under fire for hiring 30 managers at a cost of R30 million this year to sort out finances in troubled Eastern Cape councils.

The DA described the appointments as a failure of the ANC’s cadre deployment, while Cope said the capacity of the appointed managers was questionable. “The officials are employed on a two-year contract renewable at the end of the financial year depending on the performance of the individual,” Local Government MEC Sicelo Gqobana said in a reply to a question asked by DA spokesperson on local government Dacre Haddon.  Read the full story in the Daily Dispatch.
