The DA in the Nelson Mandela Metro held annual elections for its new Regional Management Committee in Port Elizabeth last night (subs: 21 May 2012), where I was elected Chairperson.
I believe that the new Regional Management Committee elected last night will pull the Democratic Alliance over the winning line in the 2016 municipal elections, whereby we will be triumphant in the Nelson Mandela Metropole. The 2014 national elections will be a dress rehearsal for the 2016 municipal elections.
In the last local election in 2011, the DA came very close to winning the Metro outright. People who have lost hope for an improvement in service delivery in the ANC continue to turn to the DA for understanding of the needs of communities and the needs of especially the youth. The recent march by the DA to Cosatu House by thousands of youths was a great example of the support the public has for policies of the DA, such as the Youth Wage Subsidy.
People see hope for the future in the DA’s policies. The DA is the party of the future for people who are looking for service delivery. It is the strategy of the DA to come up with policies and plans that will satisfy the needs of our people, who have been waiting for 18 years for service delivery.
It is important that we start preparing now for 2016. I urge all residents in the Metro to stand up and assist the DA to win this Metropole in 2016. To achieve this, registration on the voter’s role and voting in the elections will be a key factor.
