Athol Trollip was sworn in as a Member of the Provincial Legislature by the Speaker, Fikile Xasa, this morning (subs: Wednesday, 5 June 2013).
A vacancy arose in the Legislature after the passing of Pine Pienaar earlier this year. Mr. Trollip elected to return to the province from the National Parliament, where he served as DA-MP.
Athol Trollip, who is the Eastern Cape Provincial Leader of the DA, will serve as Leader in the Legislature, while Bobby Stevenson will serve as DA-Chief Whip in the Legislature.
We are very excited to have Athol back in the province to lead the DA’s election campaign in the Eastern Cape. The party continues to experience huge growth in urban- and rural areas in the province and we are ready and prepared to become the official opposition in the Legislature after next year’s elections.
Our team of MPLs in the Legislature, our councillors, activists and DA-members around the province welcome him back. We are ready to give him our full support in striving to make the Eastern Cape a province of rising opportunity for all.
