Members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature (MPLs) are conducting school visits this week, as part of the annual programme at the beginning of each academic year to assess the state of readiness for teaching and learning in Eastern Cape Schools.
On Monday, two departments appeared before the Portfolio Committee on Education to account on issues including learner admission, delivery of textbooks and stationery, infrastructure challenges, teaching demand supply and utilisation, school nutrition and scholar transport.
There are still numerous challenges as in previous years that must be overcome to ensure quality and meaningful education in the Eastern Cape.
The DA will continue to bring innovative suggestions to the department and to the legislature’s portfolio committee.
A report on the visits, with findings and recommendations will be tabled in the legislature.
