The Democratic Alliance is appalled to note that shots were allegedly fired at paramedics and that a state patient was shot and killed inside an ambulance in Kwazakhele at 4am this morning.

The lives of paramedics were put in danger as the gunman allegedly fired a shot at one of them as they were transferring the patient into the ambulance.
It is alleged that an armed man approached the vehicle and shot and killed the patient inside the ambulance. There were no policemen on the scene.
This is a violation of rights and a travesty of the protection of the members of our communities and trust we place in provincial health services.
We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and call on the SAPS to apprehend those responsible for this shocking incident.
