Dawn (DA Women’s Network) is thrilled to read (EP Herald: 13 07 15) that Freddie Gordon must pay R 2-million to the ex-wife whose body he beat, burnt and violated.
Dawn supported Avril. We appealed through the EP Herald for linen, clothing, sleepwear and cosmetics because at the time of her rescue Avril had neither possessions nor dignity. Freddy took both!
Herald readers are overwhelmingly generous. Dawn received bags and bags of goods and clothes for Avril.
Cash too was donated and spent on Avril’s transport, accommodation and rehabilitation.
Many, many thanks to the Herald and its readers for opening your hearts and purses to a victim of severe gender based violence.
Dawn showcased the DA values of freedom, fairness and opportunity for Avril.
We pledge to continue to do so as we monitor the Panayiotou case and raise awareness of increased femicide in South Africa.
Three daily deaths of women at the hands of their intimate male partners are too much!
Enough is enough! Kwanele Nyani!
