DA to inspect housing conditions in Buffalo City

Today, 27 November 2017, DA Shadow Minister of Human Settlements, Solly Malatsi MP and DA Shadow Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Mbulelo Bara MP, joined by DA Eastern Cape Shadow MEC for Human Settlements, Sanele Magaqa MPL, will assess the housing conditions in the Buffalo City region.

It is a serious indictment on the Department of Human Settlements and the entire ANC government that the Eastern Cape faces a huge backlog of over 600 000 houses.

This is due to poor planning and the subsequent stalling of housing allocation to poor South Africans who still don’t know the dignity of owning a home.

The DA is gravely concerned that in Potsdam, 154 houses have been vacant since 2013, while in Unit P, residents have been waiting for 9 years to be allocated houses.

The ANC’s indifference and the lack of urgency to expedite this process, have led to vandalism, crime and grime and the stealing of building materials.

The DA will engage with the residents to seek solutions to their plight and challenges. — Sanele Magaqa MPL, Shadow MEC for Human Settlements
