DA honours matric top achiever during special school assembly

Bobby Stevenson MPL and Heather Diogo of the Global Leadership Academy in Jeffreys Bay, who achieved the best matric results in the Eastern Cape.

Legislature leader Bobby Stevenson delivered the keynote address during a special school assembly at the Global Leadership Acadamy in Jeffreys Bay this morning, where a special assembly was held to honour Heather Diogo, who achieved the highest marks in the National Senior Certificate exams in the Eastern Cape. She was not recognised by the Department of Education, as they regard the Acadamy as a private school, even though their fees are lower than some former Model C schools.

She will therefore not receive a bursary for her university studies from the department, despite doing so well.  The DA has written to Education MEC Mandla Makupula to request that the policy reading private schools and matric achievers be revised so that all learners who do well in matric may be rewarded.
