Forensic probe launched as 384 principals leave massive textbook bills unpaid

HUNDREDS of Eastern Cape schools are being probed by forensic investigators to track down what happened to R75million meant for textbooks.

The department has discovered hundreds of schools, of the type that are responsible for buying their own stationery and textbooks out of money allocated by the department, have failed to pay suppliers.

DA OPENS CASE AGAINST SADTU MEMBER: DAILY DISPATCH

THE Eastern Cape Democratic Alliance (DA) has opened a case of attempted murder and reckless driving against the Sadtu Hewu branch chairwoman who tried to run over the party’s leaders last week including parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko.

Port Elizabeth police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans confirmed a case of reckless driving and attempted murder had been opened by the party.

DA TO BRING SADTU MEMBER TO BOOK: DAILY DISPATCH

THE Democratic Alliance will today open a criminal case against a Hewu Sadtu branch chairwoman who drove her vehicle into a group of pupils and DA leaders, including parliamentarian Lindiwe Mazibuko, on Friday.

The DA’S shadow MEC for education in the province Edmund van Vuuren said while no one was injured, the party viewed the incident as serious.

A RIGHT-WING paramilitary group has warned it is only a matter of time before scores of “disillusioned” young whites in the Eastern Cape join the organisation which has become synonymous with intense “special tactics” boot camps.

With Kommandokorps branches already established in Pretoria, Klerksdorp and the Western Cape, the Gauteng-based group claims it is signing up new recruits every day as an increasing number of whites – mainly Afrikaners – are being “forced” to learn militarystyle survival techniques to prepare for the “anarchy” to come.

PUFFING ON THE BEACH OUT WITH NEW PLAN: WEEKEND POST

SMOKERS face tough new restrictions that will ban the smoking of tobacco “in any public place” and prohibit the provision of food or refreshments and entertainment in a designated smoking area.

And, if the regulations are adopted, smoking will be prohibited even on beaches where public bathing is permitted unless you are 50 metres away from the closest person near the demarcated swimming area.
