The Democratic Alliance welcomes the commitment made by the MEC for Health, Mr. Phumulo Masualle, that ambulance services in small towns in the Karoo would be improved.
In reply to an oral question from the DA, the MEC admitted in the Bhisho Legislature last week (subs: Wed, 2 Sept) that ambulance services in small towns like Jansenville, Klipplaat, Aberdeen and Steytlerville, were operating without any trained ambulance assistants to accompany patients during transportation to and between hospitals.
The MEC agreed with the DA that not having someone attending to the patient in the back of an ambulance was unacceptable.
The MEC said that 82 posts had been advertised in that area and the process of filling the vacancies had begun. He said he was personally involved in resolving the matter and assured the legislature that the appointments would be made in the current financial year.
The Democratic Alliance will keep a close eye on the promises made by the MEC in order to assure improved healthcare for the people of the province.
