EASTERN CAPE ADJUSTMENTS BILL

The DA expects the Eastern Cape MEC for Finance, Mcebisi Jonas, to provide urgent answers about a projected over-expenditure of R3, 1 billion by the Province in the Adjustments Estimates Bill which will be tabled in the Bhisho Legislature tomorrow (subs: Tues, 24 Nov).

The main culprit of the projected over-expenditure is the Health Department at R1, 6 billion.

The reasons for the over-expenditure are largely personnel costs.

It is expected that an additional R2 billion will be made available in the adjustments budget. This is clearly inadequate to deal with the province’s over-expenditure.

The Democratic Alliance eagerly awaits an explanation from the MEC as to how one is going to deal with the financial woes of the province. We would expect him to say something about the austerity campaign that the DA called for during the budget process.
