DA TO INTERVENE IN VUKANI VILLAGE TORNADO PROJECT

The Democratic Alliance in the Provincial legislature will intervene in the speeding up of the rebuilding of the Vukani Village tornado project in Grahamstown.

A 15 month delay in sorting out this problem is unacceptable and shows the continued incompetence of the officials of this department.

I have today issued parliamentary questions to the MEC for Human Settlements, Nombulelo Mabandla and will be following up on this issue at the Human Settlement Portfolio Committee of the Legislature as soon as possible.

I am also in the process of arranging a meeting with the MEC on this and other issues as soon as possible.

The government continues to lie to the people of this Province when it states it is committed to upliftment of the poor.

This Vukani debacle as well as several other failed and mismanaged housing projects and rectification projects illustrate clearly government’s incapacity, incompetence and couldn’t care less attitude towards the plight of our citizens.
