STAND UP AND ANSWER

MEC for Education, Mahlubandile Qwase, will have to stand up and explain a crucial part of future education in the province, at the sitting of the Bhisho Legislature, scheduled for 24 February. In a question for oral reply, DA Education spokesperson Edmund van Vuuren, wants to know how many educators in the province will be retiring in the next four years. Bearing this in mind, he wants to know whether there are plans in place to fill these anticipated voids.

According the Van Vuuren there should be institutions where prospective educators can become qualified.

“We must ensure that there are a sufficient number of these institutions in the province to produce the required number of qualified educators,” he said. We also want to find whether any steps have been or are to be taken with a view to encouraging school leavers or any other matriculated adults, employed or not, to become qualified as educators”.
