I want to set the record straight in response to an sms send by “Nico” to The Herald on Friday, 30 April, as well as the sms send by “Trevor” to Die Burger, also on Friday, 30 April.
I personally do not want to get involved in a public spat with these cowards who hide behind pseudonyms and do not have the conviction to publish their birth names and contact details.
These unknown Homo sapiens will never success in driving as wedge amongst DA supporters, because no DA supporter has uttered these unsubstantiated allegations, splashed around by these faceless people.
I was at the Freedom Day celebrations, and refused to speak under an ANC-flag. I still maintain that the podium was draped in ANC regalia. The ANC in the Eastern Cape Legislature has already apologised to the DA for the display of these ANC-flags. The Chief Whip of the ANC has also agreed to discuss the matter at a multi-party whips forum.
Our provincial leader, Athol Trollip, is taking up the matter with the minster of Arts and culture, Lulama Xingwana, and the Public Protector for abuse and partisanship. What happened is contrary to nation building. The type of partisanship displayed through the smsses should be rejected with the contempt it deserves.
