BHISHO DOES U-TURN ON R1M ‘GESTURE’

The Bhisho Legislature last week reversed a decision of Premier Noxolo Kiviet’s executive to pay nearly R1million in ex-gratia to members of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders (ECHTL).

The DA’s Veliswa Mvenya said there was no policy in place for such payments and those set to benefit were still in office. “This incident is not much different from the recent purchasing of luxury cars for the traditional leaders in the province by the same department,” Mvenya said, adding that ex-gratia payments and cars for traditional leaders had nothing to do with the government’s mandate of service delivery.  Read the full story in the Daily Dispatch.
