The Bhisho Legislature has welcomed a new Bill to give the independent complaints directorate (ICD) the powers to investigate allegations against the SAPS as well as municipal police. The ICD will be known as the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).

The DA’s Bobby Stevenson was also pleased that station commanders would have to report to Ipid should they become aware of any misconduct. “We have been concerned for a long time that the recommendations of the ICD have not been enforced by the SAPS and there was no legislation compelling them to do so,” he said.  Read the full story in the Daily Dispatch.
