Thousands of the Eastern Cape’s poorest communities remain homeless or live in informal settlements as the Department of Human Settlements continues to fail to reach basic targets. More than 85% of government houses planned for the current financial year, which ends on March 31 next year, have not been completed.
“It is clear from these figures that as things currently stand, provincial housing will fail to deliver sufficient houses and will not spend the entire allocated housing budget by year end,” said DA housing spokesman Dacre Haddon. Read the full story in the Weekend Post.
