The Eastern Cape government is likely to overspend by R3,7bn at the end of this financial year, after overspending by R2,7bn last year.
Eastern Cape Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Bobby Stevenson said the delivery of important services would be affected. “This impacts on the supply of medicine in clinics, blankets and equipment in hospitals, maintenance of schools and other buildings and road maintenance.” He also said it was likely that suppliers would not be paid on time.
