PLAYING BALL WITH HIERARCHY

It’s early days for Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet’s new cabinet, which she announced on Saturday, but it is understandable that DA provincial legislature leader Bobby Stevenson feels the re- shuffle has nothing to do with service delivery. “It’s all about factional politics, aligning the cabinet with the political forces at play in the province,” he said.

The disturbing fact is that – and it has widely been reported by this newspaper – Kiviet seemingly bowed to pressure from her ruling party to wield the axe on her executive committee. That she is not her own person in the Bhisho job is clear from her initial dismissal of the rumours that a shuffle was on the cards. It was only after the ANC made its intentions clear by giving her the “approval” to change the line-up of MECs, that Kiviet changed her tune and made comments indicating that discussions were already under way within the party to make changes.  Read the full article in the Daily Dispatch.
