MPLs John Cupido (above) and Dacre Haddon embarked on a road trip across the Chris Hani and Gariep Districts to deal with specific queries related to their portfolios and to seek other problems that need solving. The trip saw numerous meetings with councillors and community members in Queenstown, Sterkstroom, Burgersdorp, Aliwal-North, Molteno and Tarkastad. Haddon, with the help of Cupido, will be discussing various issues with the Local Government MEC. Amongst the list of issues that were raised were rates, economic development failures, dysfunctional councils and municipal managers, liquor licence (illegal shebeens) queries, dilapidated sports facilities, needy old age homes and provincially-aided hospitals that are fighting provincialisation. Haddon and Cupido plan to make a follow up trip in the months after the municipal elections to see the fruits of their work after they have resolved the issues. They plan future trips to areas in the rest of the province.
