ACCOUNTABILITY NEEDED

The editorial titled Hold back on the cheers (DD 2 Aug) has reference:

To implement an evaluation and monitoring body to scrutinize service delivery for mayors and MECs does not go far enough.

The DA believes that individual performance contracts are needed for every mayor and MEC.

The implementation of such performance contracts if properly applied would give a clear indication on performance as to whether or not targets are met.

This would allow for direct accountability on performance as opposed to a possible subjective or protective, sweetheart monitoring from one comrade on such a committee to another non-performing comrade.

Citizens can only be lifted from poverty and given opportunity if they receive decent service delivery from capable and motivated political leaders who are committed to the creation of opportunity and a better life for all the people.
