CREDIT should be given where its due. In this case I want to thank the personnel who work at the 24-hour roads emergency line (0800-644 644).

My DA colleague in the legislature, Veliswa Mvenya, phoned me at 5.15 on Sunday morning November 4 after she got lost on a dirt road in the dark while travelling from Port Elizabeth to East London.

I phoned the emergency number and received excellent service from the man on duty (unfortunately I didn’t get his name). He immediately contacted Mvenya, directed her back to the main road, and then even made a follow-up call back to me, to inform me that my colleague was safely on her way home.

This excellent service – on a Sunday and at such an hour – must be acknowledged and applauded. Well done to the Department of Transport and the call centre. — Pine Pienaar (MPL), Bhisho
