MAKANA DENIES BAILOUT: THE HERALD

THE Makana Municipality has denied receiving a bailout of R3-million from Rhodes University to pay striking workers’ salaries last week.

The news comes as DA Eastern Cape shadow MEC for local government Dacre Haddon yesterday called for the municipality to be placed under administration because of its financial woes.

Makana municipal spokesman Mcedisi Boma said there was a bill of R8-million that was under dispute.

“We have not borrowed money from Rhodes University. They gave us R3-million from an account that was being disputed,” Boma said. – Rochelle de Kock
