The DA is delighted by Dr Rolene Wagner’s swift response to our concerns about the plague of cockroaches in the maternity ward at the Frere Hospital.
The Kangaroo Unit has been thoroughly fumigated and has been completely cockroach free and clean since 8 October.
Staff and volunteers helped to clean the ward and Dr Wagner has seen to it that a kitchenette and lounging spaces have been created for the new moms. This is a good plan! It will keep food out of bedside lockers and contribute to a healthy, safe environment for newborn babies and their moms.
Dr Wagner Walsh’ actions clearly show that she cares and puts her patients’ needs first.
The DA invites all state facilities in the Eastern Cape to adopt a similarly proactive approach when queries about state hospitals and clinics in the Eastern Cape are raised in the media. — Celeste Barker MPL, DA Shadow MEC for Health
