This morning, the community that depends on the NU 11 Clinic in Motherwell in Nelson Mandela Bay, locked the gate because they are angry with staff shortages at the facility.
Ongoing staff shortages at our clinics are unacceptable. It is delaying vital services to communities and is placing an extra burden of care on a few overworked doctors, nurses and support staff.
The DA condemns the Eastern Cape Department of Health (EC DoH) for its management failure and a demonstrable lack of initiative and care for its overloaded staff.
In a caring society, state health services are prioritised for the benefit of vulnerable groups.
The DA, therefore, appeals to the EC DoH to prioritise planning and to ensure sufficient staff at clinics. It can learn from the Western Cape.
Our people deserve reliable, lifesaving care no matter who they are or where they live.
Enough is enough! The time has come to put service delivery first. — Celeste Barker MPL, Shadow MEC for Health
