The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape wishes all teachers and learners well for the 2020 school year.

We hope that you will continue building on the success achieved by the Class of 2019, who improved on the matric pass rate in the province from 70,6% in 2018 to 76,5% in 2019.

The number of bachelor’s passes also increased from 27,4% to 32,3% in 2019.

Education is a passport to a new, brighter future. We are excited for the children who are beginning this journey and going to school for the first time this year, as well as for those who are starting the high school careers.

It is however up to all of us to ensure that these children are supported throughout this journey and are provided with a quality education in a safe and secure environment.

The DA will strive hard to promote a culture of learning in the province and call on communities and parents to ensure that learners are in the classroom during the schooling calendar. We also need to ensure that schools are open timeously, are functional and have all the necessary resources available to them.
