6BothaKobus was born on 16th February 1969 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

At the age of 3 years he relocated with his parents to Johannesburg.
Kobus is currently single and has two grown-up sons, a six-year-old daughter and a nine-year-old son.

1973 – 1986 Kobus completed his secondary and primary education in Johannesburg.

1986 He enrolled at the Wits University to study for an LLB Law degree but due to circumstances could not complete the course.

Kobus has a total of 23 years of governmental experience.

From 1987 to 1996 Kobus worked for Department of Defence with secondments to Justice, SAPS, Correctional Services and Ministerial level.

1996 – 2000 He established his own business and successfully managed the business enterprise for 5 years.

Since 2000 Kobus served as a public representative at local municipal council level, district municipal council level and lastly at the Buffalo City Metropolitan Council before being elected to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in May 2014.

The latter earned him 14 years accumulated experience in Local Government affairs.  He currently serves as DA Shadow MEC for Social Development.

Kobus has served the Democratic Alliance in various senior leadership positions and is currently a member of the Democratic Alliance Eastern Cape Provincial Council, he is a Whip in the DA Caucus in the Legislature and Constituency Leader for EC Midlands which comprises of Cradock, Middelburg, Tarkastad, Molteno Hofmeyr and Sterkstoom.
